2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Poor Feedback
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
The news follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a sharper identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
David
