This change is undergoing trials over the following weeks before a widespread rollout. This shift comes amid a rise in AI-generated material, fueled by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that approximately 10% of the most rapidly expanding channels on a popular video site only show content made by AI. A significant portion of this content is deemed mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, factory-style content that is often illogical or surreal.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s rules mandate content makers to tag convincing AI-made content, and it bans harmful fake videos of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any believable AI-generated clip that is unmarked can be deleted under its terms of service.

In addition, the app will now add an AI-generated tag to content produced via its built-in AI features, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying artificial media. This measure is designed to deter users from trying to evade the disclosure requirement.

Educational Initiatives

Moderation Strategy

The platform has justified its safety measures, amid discussion over proposals to make redundant numerous safety staff in the United Kingdom. TikTok is planning to cut 439 jobs in its trust and safety division in the UK capital, with trade unions and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A company official stated that people-led review would still have a role, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by removing the most harmful content ahead of it has to be seen by staff. The company reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content handled by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to the use of its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to balance people and machines to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to limit contact with harmful content as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is proving valuable work at speed.”
